Coaching Philosophy
I coach because I love the sport of running and I love helping people improve their physical and mental strengths. I encourage a positive atmosphere with open communication in hopes that my athletes will strive for their best at every moment. I focus on the long-term development of my athletes, as I know that the dedication and patience it takes to see improvements in running will lead to success and improvements in all aspects of life. Remaining competitive and physically fit throughout life not only helps with confidence but also provides a great sense of pride and accomplishment.
Favorite Race Distance:
The marathon! I love the fact that at the marathon distance, it never really feels like you ran a perfect race, but you get closer and closer each time. It’s the idea of running one perfectly that keeps you coming back for more.
I believe that it is at this distance where you are pushed beyond what you thought was possible. There comes a point in every marathon where you must you must acknowledge the pain and use your mental strength to overcome the extreme urge to stop. Even the most fit and talented athletes sometimes cannot overcome the mental and physical challenges of a marathon and that is what makes it so unique.
Biggest Game Changer for Running:
Consistency has been the biggest game changer for me. Getting out and putting the miles in even on days you don’t want to - especially on the days you don’t want to - drives performance in running. I have experienced this firsthand and believe that anyone who wants to be a better runner must dedicate the time every day to this sport. Trust me, if you stick with it long enough, it will stop becoming a punishment and start to become enjoyable.
